Katherine Ray Linares, 55, of Phoenix, passed away on September 26, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. She was born June 26, 1956 in Ajo, Arizona to Wayne Trenton Odom and Ruth Renie Miles. An Arizona native, Katherine migrated to Phoenix at an early age, where she lived her life surrounded by her family. She had a career as department manager for a large retail chain, that she enjoyed greatly with her co-workers and friends. Katherine had many hobbies and many things she enjoyed doing to pass the time. Her favorites being crafts, photography, researching and exploring her family tree, and time on her computer. Rarely was she ever seen without her laptop, which she was quick to use to investigate an issue or topic. Not only was enchiladas one of her favorite meals, to show the type of person she was, she was quick to make that favorite meal for anyone that entered her humble home. Katherine definitely had a sweet tooth for her chocolate covered raisins, or Raisenettes, as they were called by the movie goers. She enjoyed music by the group Enigma, with her favorite song being, “Return to Innocence”, and her second favorite was Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. It was not uncommon to find her sitting and listening to her music and getting lost in the memory. Of all her travels, Katherine once had the opportunity to venture to the Seven Sisters Mountain Range in Canada. It was her intent to take a short vacation, but was so overcome with its beauty, she stayed for eight months. It was her wish to return one day. Katherine’s favorite color was blue, a blue as deep as the night sky and as broad as the love she had and shared with her family. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her and whose lives she had touched.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Ruth. She is survived by her long-time companion of 11 years, Victor Brakenbury; her daughters, Angela and Katherine; her sons, Joseph, Michael and Robert; her sisters, Ruth-Rene and Mae-Lynn; and also 18 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Katherine on Saturday, October 1 at 3:00pm at 3102 West Taylor Street in Phoenix.
