Mr. Jose Magallanes Castro, 83, of Tolleson, passed away November 14, 2014 at St. Michael’s Manor in Peoria. Jose was born on March 19, 1931 in Sain Alto, Zacatecas, Mexico to Candelario Castro and Catarina Magallanes Castro. He moved to Arizona in 1982, and as a young man, Mr. Castro was part of the United Farm Workers Union. He worked in several industries over the years, and in the 1980’s, he became a landscaper and enjoyed this line of work until his retirement. Jose continued his love of agriculture into his retirement and enjoyed beautifying the homes of friends and family by planting flowers and trees for them.

Jose is preceded in death by his wife, Raquel Pena Castro; his parents, Catarina Magallanes Castro and Candelario Castro; and also his grandparents, Vincente and Marcelina Castro, and Apolinar and Epifania Magallanes. He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Atterberry of New Bloomfied, Missouri; two sons, Jose A. Castro of Rancho Cucamonga, California and Humberto Cavallero of Avondale, Arizona; and also nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
