Katerina “Karley” Dawn Gumm, was born August 22, 1995 in Lima, Ohio to Bruce & Brandy Hullinger Gumm, and moved from Lima to Goodyear, Arizona in 2001.

Karley, as she was known by all, was a huge fan of Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, & almost all kinds of music. Some of her favorites included:  J. Cole, MC Magic, & Prince Royce. Her devotion & admiration of Rapper T.I. was something everyone knew. She was extremely passionate about soccer, being it playing for fun, or being on the JV & Varsity Soccer team at her high school, Desert Edge, to being an avid watcher and fan of professional soccer as well. Karley had a one of a kind personality that was infectious to everyone. She had a way of making you smile no matter your mood. From her random noises, to her off the wall phrases and humor, she was a delight to be around always. Karley had a huge heart and she touched so many lives and loved so many as well. Her joy, love, laughter, smile, and overall happiness of life will be remembered forever. She believed God had a special plan for her and now we all know his plan was that he needed a very special Angel and Karley is that Angel. She served her purpose on this mortal plane so now her path is to watch over all of us until we’re all together again.

She is survived by her mother & step-father, Brandy & T.R. Johnson; step-grandmother, Roena Johnson; sister, Seaman Recruit Ashley Gumm; brother, Dylan Gumm of Goodyear, Arizona; father, Bruce Gumm; uncles, Mark Gumm, Jackie, Daniel, Ray, and Justin Hullinger of Ohio; aunts, Janet Gumm, Nichole Hollar, and Tammie Hullinger of Ohio; maternal grandfather, Jack Hullinger Sr. of Ohio; paternal grandmother, Betty Gumm of Ohio and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Roose & paternal grandfather, Larry Gumm of Ohio.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, Arizona. A service will be held during the visitation starting at 7:00pm, with the Rev Robert Earby officiating.

  3. Brandy, My prayers continue for your family as you said goodbye to your precious girl when the Lord called her home. Heading to Great Lakes to celebrate the PIR celebration of her new sailor-sister would have had her in such high spirits when the Lord called. She sounds like such a wonderful girl. May the Lord supply His comfort/peace to you and your family at a time when earthly words/hugs can only go so far. Praying for your healing as well. God Bless all of you. diannep, NavyforMoms

  12. Kar;
    I did my best to take care of and protect you from harm over the past 10 years. This was one time I couldn't do anything about. I will miss but never forget your beautiful smile and those sparkling eyes. You made me so proud to be your step dad. I feel honored to have been a part of your life and I hope you felt the same. Words can't express my feelings having you, your little brother and big sister and of course let us not forget your mother in my life. I almost lost both of your but for some reason a higher power decided to let mom come home to me. I only wish I could have had your both return to me but you was needed elsewhere. The heavens has a new star sparkling up above, it is my little girl.

    I will Love you Always and remember -- "It's All Good"
    T.R.

  13. Katerina was a student in my class during my first semester teaching. I'll always remember her infectious smile and her ability to bring happiness to the class. She always added happiness to the room, and she was a pleasure to have as a student. - Mr. Mannion
