Ruben Corrales Montero Sr, 58, of Phoenix passed away at his home on June 26, 2011. He was born September 24, 1952 in Phoenix to Rosa and Pedro Montero. Well, what more can be said. Ruben loved the old neighborhood, "Cocopah". He had been known to bring a chair and sit in the front yard of his grandmother's house long after her passing. Ruben was definitely someone that could be amazed by nature. His family spoke of how at a young age, during a trip, how he was awed by the sight of the Grand Canyon. But don't be fooled, because it was those human experiences in life that he also enjoyed very much. He did like his old school music, but even teetering on the age of old school, his favorite song was "Red Red Wine" by UB40. Some would claim it to be more alternative, but Ruben stood by the old school label. Have you ever heard of anyone enjoying a good cold drink? That person was Ruben. If it was open and cold, you can rest assured, he was enjoying it, like a nice frosty bottle of Old English. From a simple slice of cheese pizza to anything more elaborate, Ruben definitely did like to eat. A cold beer, and a slice of that pizza while watching his Cowboys play on TV was probably some of the best times that he enjoyed. In regards to admiration, Ruben admired good people, old school cars, or just a simple night back in the "day" of cruising Central.

Ruben is preceded in death by his mother and father, Rosa and Pedro; his brother, Jessie; and his sister, Lupita.  He is survived by his son, Ruben Jr; his daughters, Christina and Sandra; his brothers, Vincent, Johnny, David, Eddie, Albert, and Raymond; his sisters, Virginia, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Sheila; and also 4 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 2 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale. A remembrance service will be held during the visitation starting at 6:30pm.

  1. To all the Montero family,
Ruben will be dearly missed. I am David Montero's sister in law and Ruben was like family to me too. My kids loved him and will miss him very much. They always asked me when is "uncle Ruben" coming over. He helped me take care of them when my husband died and i will always be grateful for that. I will remember the laughs and tears we shared and our trips to Goodwill. Rest in peace Ruben. Love, Rockie.
