Henry Anthony Malachowski Sr. Master Sergeant, United States Air Force, Retired, 62, of Avondale passed away at West Valley Hospital in Goodyear on May 5, 2011. He was born May 22, 1948 in New Britain, Connecticut to Walter and Genevive Malachowski. Henry moved to Arizona 30 years ago, after being relocated to Luke Air Force Base while serving on active duty in the United States Air Force. After achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, he was honorably retired from the United States Air Force in 1987, with 22 years of faithful service to his country. A designated combat control specialist, Henry was awarded numerous medals and honors, to include, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon and a selection of other ribbons and awards that defined his stellar career.
Henry was a huge sports fan, with an extra passion for professional golf, which he used in pursuing a satisfying career in his later days, earning the title “Golf Pro”. Not a season went by that Henry and his son, Henry Jr., didn't spend time sitting and watching his professional baseball team, the Boston Red Sox on the big screen, or taking in a game if possible. A true outdoorsman, Henry enjoyed the basics and simple life of fishing, camping, or just watching a baseball game while enjoying an ice cold beer. He had a passion for spending precious time with his family and 2 grandkids, Boston and Jersey.
Henry is preceded in death by his father, Walter. He is survived by his mother, Genevive; his daughter, Genny; his son, Henry Jr.; his sisters, Donna and Christine; and 2 grandchildren.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 18, from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale.

I have been searching for Henry basically since the advent of the internet. He was 18 and I was 20 when we arrived in Germany in 1967. We worked together and finished growing up together in the 3 1/2 years at the radar station. He was serious about his job and the Red Sox, his sense of humor made him fun to be around.
