Carlos
Lopez, 73, of Buckeye, passed away on February 20, 2014 of natural causes in
Buckeye, Arizona. Carlos was born on
February 20, 1941 in Shafter, Texas to Pompeyo and Agustina Lopez. Carlos was a
dedicated Corporal in the United States Marine Corps who served his country for
four years during the Vietnam War.
Corporal Lopez held the position as Machine Gunner aka “Grunt”, the
backbone of the Marine Corps, and a very hard working, prestigious position.
Corporal Lopez was awarded numerous awards and citations to reflect his
dedication to service, country, corps, and fellow Marines.
Carlos
was an auto mechanic who had a passion for cars and teaching his children about
them. He always wore a smile. He was a loving husband and father.
Carlos
is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cecilia Lopez; 1 daughter, Jessica Lopez;
3 sons, Wenceslao Lopez, Salvador Lopez, and Brandon Lopez; 2 sisters, Aurora
and Maggie; 2 brothers, Henry and Louis; and 5 grandchildren.
A
visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1 from 4:00pm-7:00pm, at Avenidas
Funeral Chapel located at 522 East Western Avenue in Old Town Avondale. Burial will take place on Friday, March 7 at
1:00pm at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 North Cave
Creek Road in Phoenix.
