My deepest sympathy to you all.

I knew little of the man they called Indio, however I grew up and loved Raymond. Named after his father Raymond Mendoza he was tagged with the nickname "Little Raymond" by the Mendoza clan, to which he never out grew, as if there could ever be anything little about this gentle giant. Raymond was blessed with his daddy good looks and his mommy's dimples - a lethal combination to break hearts for sure. As children he along with his sisters and the rest of the Mendoza cousins played spirited rounds of Duck Duck Goose, Red Rover Red Rover, Red Light Green Light, Simon Says, and if the light permitted Mother May I in our grandparents' backyard. I do have to say he was not a very good sport storming off with his hair flopping in the breeze to tell on us - back then he was easy to pick on being outnumbered by us girls. He grew to be a gentle and kind man strong on family values and the traditions of the Rivera household as well as protector of his children and his sisters whom he adored. He treated everyone he encountered with respect and focused on the good in people rather than their shortcomings, a lesson to us all. He was a talented artist and carpenter and took pride that his hard work would be around for years to come. There was a playful side to him as well. In recent posts on his Facebook account he sent messages to his sisters telling each of them that out of all his sisters that particular sister was the most beautiful, but not to tell the others. His laugh was infectious and his hugs were sincere. He was ordained and performed the marriage ceremonies for his sister RaeAnn and his daughter Stephanie to their respective spouses. In a sitcom moment he delivered his daughter Stephanie when she was born - Steph tells a funny story of walking up to his apartment door expecting to go to the hospital and hearing a baby crying on the other side of the door instead. He was the son Tio Albert never had and Tio held him dear to his heart until he left this world. I watched him make peace with his father Raymond when he was called home gently cradling Tio in his arms and whispering words in his ear that were only between father and son. Raymond leaves behind a legacy of love in his short life. His mother is without a son, his sisters without their only brother, his children without their father, and his community without a respected leader. We are united in our grief, but most importantly we are united in our love for this incredible man. I am grateful to have been chosen by the heavens to share our lives and our name. I am comforted that Raymond is in good hands with loved ones and friends guiding him through his next journey. You will be dearly missed Raymond, my love is with you
always.

JoeyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
